Alston was on another quick pass when the engine let loose at the top end, sending him on a wild ride into the gravel trap at the top end of the track. Despite oil absolutely covering both front tires, Alston kept the car straight and between the guardrails, doing an excellent job of saving the car (and himself) from what could have been a bad crash.

Alston’s 1964 Nova uses (no surprise here) the Chris Alston’s Chassisworks billet supercharger drive system unveiled last year, turning a Vortech V-28 123 that feeds 598 cubic inches. Unfortunately, a rod failure kicked massive holes in both sides of the oil pan and block, ending Alston’s weekend prematurely. Despite the setback, we congratulate Alston on decimating the 6-second barrier and look forward to seeing his Nova back on track.
