Chevy Hardcore’s Top 5 Rides From The 2014 SEMA Show

Top 5 - Chevy SEMA ShowGo to any car show and one of the most popular makes you’ll find is Chevrolet. This year at the SEMA Show, there was no shortage of Chevy show cars, from the mild to the wild and many somewhere in between, and we couldn’t help but fall in love with a number of them. Check out our Top 5 Chevy picks from this year’s event below!

1. 1964 Malibu “MaliciouSS”

feature_20No complete “Top” list of Chevys from the 2014 SEMA Show should be without our number one pick. That’s because, not only is it built by the Roadster Shop, it’s also fully custom in every aspect. But what else would you expect?

Owned by Tim Roach, this one-of-a-kind 1964 Malibu is one of the sweetest cars we’ve come across yet.

As you can see from its finish, there have been dozens of body modifications done to the car, including smoothing out the body lines, shaving off the door handles, shortening the rear end of the car, fitting the car with a new custom billet tail panel surround with LED back lighting, and adding a custom decklid and a non-chromed rear bumper.

feature_22Other custom features include flush-fit glass, and a completely restyled front nose, including the grille surround, grille, modern halo headlights, and front bumper. The car is topped off in gorgeous PPG Jet Black paint laid by Allen Palmer of Palmer’s Customs and a stock convertible top recovered by Paul Atkins.

feature_23Named MaliciouSS as a play on the Malibu SS name tag, this epic Chevy is powered by something any SS fan would be proud to have under their hood–an LS3 built by Wegner Racing. Backed by a 6L90 push-button automatic transmission, this beast of a power plant is good for just over 800 hp. Out back, the engine is tied to a custom stainless exhaust system with Borla mufflers and CNC machined tips.

Underneath the car is a fully independent front and rear suspension with billet control arms. This keeps the Michelin Pilot sports wrapped around one-off billet wheels from Greening Auto well planted to the pavement. Providing the car with plenty of stopping power are hardy Baer brakes.

feature_26

Moving to the inside, MaliciouSS features a fully custom interior designed by Paul Atkins, which features custom grey and black sport bucket seats with contrasting orange piping, a matching back seat, gadget-filled center console, and a Kicker stereo system controlled by a motorized iPad that comes out of the custom dash. In front of the driver’s seat, custom gauges from New Vintage display MaliciouSS’s vitals while a custom Greening Auto steering wheel with over 100 hours of fabrication in it give the car’s driver full control of the vehicle.

feature_92. 1966 Chevelle “Recoil”

Much like MaliciouSS, we couldn’t compile our list of top Chevys without giving a spot to Recoil–the 1966 Chevelle built by Ringbrothers. Owned by Chris McPhie, this amazing Chevy was revealed at the 2014 SEMA Show in the Royal Purple booth, not only surprising show-goers, but also the car’s lucky owner.

feature_64Giving the car it’s unique look are a number of carbon fiber panels and components sourced from Gemini Racing and Composite Envisions. Topping off the massaged body is a custom Sand Storm BASF Glasurit Waterborne paint scheme.

Under the hood, the Chevelle features a Wenger Motorsports-built LS7 engine with a Racing Head Service (RHS) aluminum block and heads, Holley fuel injection system, and a Whipple twin-screw supercharger. With all these goodies, the Chevy power plant is pushing over 975 hp. Behind the engine, Recoil is fitted with a custom Tremec transmission by Bowler, which is tied to a John’s Industries Ford 9-inch rearend via a Dynotech driveshaft.

feature_68Underneath, the car features a custom Roadster Shop chassis with a C5 Corvette independent front suspension, rear four-link, AFCO coil-over shocks, and Roadster Shop sway bars, in addition to power rack-and-pinion steering.

feature_67Planting the car to the ground are custom HRE/Ringbrothers 19×9.5-inch front and 20×13-inch rear hoops wrapped in Michelin Pilot Super Sport rubber. Braking is taken care of by Baer 6R six-piston brakes with 14-inch rotors.

Rounding out the build is a high-tech/futuristic interior, complete with custom Ringbrothers seats upholstered by Upholstery Unlimited, water transfer graphics from Liquid Concepts, Racepak gauges, a Classic Instruments-sourced boost gauge, Vintage Air A/C system, and a Pioneer head unit flanked by a Kicker amplifier and speakers.

feature_773. 1969 Nova

Designed and built by Derick Samson of Samson Design, this classic Nova is not your average muscle car. But that’s part of the fun! Owned by Steve Head, this ’69 Nova is completely custom, from the smoothed body panels and unique color scheme to the out-of-this-world interior.

feature_33It all started with the dash; one borrowed out of a 1956 Chevy. From there, the car’s entire design was decided and classic 50s styling took over. So much so, that even the emblems on the side of the Nova and on the custom engine cover are ’56 Bel Air script.

Practically everything on the car is handmade and coated in DuPont ChromaBase Steppenbraun paint, a Mercedes color. Trimming the car is a slightly darker Pewter Grey color that’s also carried over into the moldings for a subtle effect.

feature_37

Inside, the car features a fully custom interior, also designed by Samson. Formed metal door panels covered in deep Fawn-colored leather mold right into the dash when the doors are closed while futuristic seats feature perfect back support and headrests that shoot back towards the rear seat. All upholstery is topped off with French stitching.

Custom gauges grace the narrowed ’56 Chevy dashboard while creature comforts, like a Vintage Air A/C system, make for climate-controlled cruising.

feature_39Powering the custom Nova is a GM 6.0-liter engine out of a 2009 Pontiac G8. Although relatively stock, this power plant has been plumbed with a custom air intake system and tuned by Street Performance to produce a bit more than its factory 361 hp. Backing the 6.0-liter engine is a 6L80e six-speed automatic transmission.

Now if this isn’t one of the coolest Nova’s you’ve ever seen, we don’t know what is!

feature_414. 1970 Camaro Z/28

Featured in the Ron Francis Wiring booth, our list of Top 5 Chevys wouldn’t be complete without this killer second-gen Camaro.

feature_42A 1970 Z/28 to be exact, this classic F-body has been completely made over for superior performance.

First off, it’s equipped with a 6.2-liter Chevy LSA engine that’s been outfitted with Lingenfelter’s 700 hp+ Performance Package by Pace Performance, giving this bad little muscle car quite the bite. Fuel is provided to the engine via a narrowed stainless steel fuel tank.

Backing the supercharged engine is a 6L90 paddle-shift transmission with paddle shifters from Powertrain Control Solutions. This is tied to a Precision Shaft Technologies drive shaft and on to a Moser 9-inch rearend. Under the car, you’ll find a Detroit Speed hydro-formed front sub frame and suspension, a DSE Quadralink rear suspension, and JRI coil-overs. Resting atop American Racing wheels wrapped in Toyo rubber, and backed by massive Brembo brakes, this awesome Camaro is ready for any competition.

Adding to the car’s performance as well as its looks are light-weight carbon fiber body panels, including an Anvil carbon fiber hood, front end and rear spoiler. Other interesting touches on the car include a Jet-Hot coated Borla exhaust and Fesler Built billet taillights. Topping everything off is a custom PPG blue and silver paint scheme.

Inside, the Camaro features an interior by Ron Mangus Hot Rod Interiors, which is outfitted with Sabelt bucket seats, an Ididit steering column spinning a Sabelt steering wheel, Dakota Digital gauges and a Speartech shifter. Amping up the interior is a 2,400-watt Kicker sound system with 11 speakers.

feature_725. 1966 Impala

Owned by Jr. Ulloa, this amazing blue Impala was the cherry on top of an already impressive Chevy showing at the 2014 SEMA Show. And having been built by Wild Child Customs in California, there should be no doubt why.

feature_74Sprayed in Axalta Blue, Ulloa’s Impala features a molded frame under a hydraulic suspension setup. Powering the car is a classic 350 ci Chevy small-block, which has been outfitted with numerous products from CFR Performance, including the alternator, valve covers, pulleys, radiator, air cleaner, water pump and oil pan. Backing the SBC is a CFR Performance transmission.

Aesthetically, the ’66 Impala certainly stood out in a sea of colors along the front grounds of the SEMA Show, sporting finishing touches like a shaved firewall, sunroof and shaved door handles. Inside, the car features custom diamond pleated upholstery from Meda’s Upholstery and a body-colored dash housing Dakota Digital gauges and a modern touch-screen audio system. Matching the dash is a CFR Performance steering wheel.

feature_76While finding enough Chevys to fill our Top 5 list was easy, narrowing them down was tough. So, we also wanted to give special mention of two other killer Chevys we were impressed by- the 1967 Chevelle built by TV show Chop, Cut, Rebuild and the 1970 Chevelle from the Keystone booth.

You can see pictures of these two cars, as well as many more photos of our Top 5 Chevy picks in the Chevy Hardcore Gallery below!
